ST-NG1 Random Noise Generator The audio noise generator shall be an RDL ST-NG1. The unit shall produce random analog audio-band noise processed and filtered to drive two separate sets of outputs, one for white noise, one for pink noise. Each output set, white and pink, shall be equipped with a multi-turn level trimmer. The noise generation stage shall produce noise from an analog source yielding random noise with no repetitive frequency or amplitude pattern. Amplitude limiting circuitry shall control extreme peak excursions while fully preserving random amplitude variations of at least 20 dB. The generated noise shall have a bandwidth no less than 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The white noise output shall be wideband. The pink noise output shall have a power spectral density inversely proportional to frequency. The unit shall provide two balanced audio outputs, one line level and one mic level, for each noise type, white and pink. The output circuits shall be configured to produce an unbalanced output of proper phase between the positive output leg and ground. A separate multi-turn trimmer shall be provided for setting the output level of each noise type, white and pink. Each trimmer shall provide adjustment for its respective line output from off to +8 dBu, and for its mic output from off to -40 dBu. The trimmer shall simultaneously adjust the mic and line output. Each output shall be protected from damage due to intermittent or sustained short circuits, and shall be specified for duty in circuits where direct sustained short circuits to module ground may be used to mute the module output. The unit shall be constructed in an electrically non-conductive, thermally conductive enclosure. Internal circuitry shall be protected from moisture and vibration using a thermally conductive compound that permanently secures the circuitry within the enclosure. The face of the unit shall provide graphical labels identifying wiring connections and operating controls. Controls shall be oriented toward the edge of the unit. Connection to external wiring shall be provided using a fixed terminal block on the edge of the unit. The terminal block shall accept wiring gauges from 14 to 22 and shall include a positive electrically conductive mechanism to prevent wire abrasion by the terminal screws. The unit shall measure 3” (7.6 cm) x 1.6” (4 cm) x 0.7” (1.7 cm) and be compatible with all RDL STICK-ON mounting accessories. The unit shall be supplied with a two part re-closable polypropylene fastener system equipped with a rubber adhesive that bonds to low surface energy materials. Power requirements shall be 24 Vdc ground-referenced with a maximum current not exceeding 30 mA. The unit shall utilize an external power supply and shall be equipped to operate from 24 Vdc. The unit shall be engineered, assembled and tested in the U.S.A. and be specified for continuous duty in professional installed systems. The unit shall be specified for operation in an ambient temperature between 0 and 55 degrees C. The unit shall comply with relevant EMC requirements and shall bear the CE marking. The unit shall be an RDL ST-NG1.
